Be careful with stuff like this. A mixture of truths, half-truths and unsupported innaccuracies.
Gadhafi did a huge amount to pull the Libyan people out of poverty. Boosted many basic human rights and protected national resources from foreign plunder.
However, he also grossly favoured the tribes that supported him and the people in the rebel eastern areas had some legitimate grievances about persecution and imbalance. Something perfectly typical of any tribal society and certainly not anywhere near justification for an oxymornoic ‘humanitarian intervention’, there were tensions in Libya though, especially in recent years as the effects of decades of Western sanctions had really bit into the economic growth the country had managed to make and coupled with increased freedoms had brought about significant protest demanding economic changes and further civil rights. This would have been a basis for actual democratic reform (about 2-3 years ago) if the US at that time hadn’t been of the view that (paraphrasing), issues of human rights should not be allowed to interfere with trade relations to Libya. In the balance Gadhafi was certainly a hugely positive influence on the country but he cannot be painted as universally loved and fair to all.
