Thierry Meyssan – Mali: One war can hide another

A long time in the making and announced by François Hollande six months in advance, the French intervention in Mali was portrayed as an emergency decision in response to dramatic developments. This scheme aims not only at seizing Mali’s gold and uranium, but more especially at paving the way for the destabilization of Algeria.

In order to carry out its military intervention, France has turned to a number of countries for support, including Algeria. Alger is trapped – it either has to accept collaboration with an old colonial power, or take the risk of an influx of Islamists on its territory. After some hesitation, it agreed to open its airspace to French aviation. But then a non-identified Islamist group attacked a British Petroleum gas terminal in southern Algeria, accusing Algiers of complicity with Paris in the Malian affair. A hundred people were taken hostage, but they were not only Algerian and French. The aim of this attack is clearly to internationalize the conflict by transporting it to Algeria.

This technique of French intervention is a copy of the one deployed by the Bush administration – use Islamist groups to create conflict, then intervene and occupy the area under the pretence of restoring order. That is why François Hollande’s rhetoric picks up on the ”war against terrorism”, which has long been abandoned by Washington. The usual cast of actors can be found in this play – Qatar has bought shares in the major French companies installed in Mali, and the emir of Ansar Dine has close ties to Saudi Arabia.

Christof Lehmann – Hollande’s Mali Visit: “Liberating” Mali by Occupying the Truth ?

In a single political maneuver, the shrewd French statesman succeeded at selling the recolonization of Mali as a liberation. In his nationwide televised speech, Hollande sold the covert tripartite cooperation between France, Malis’s Interim President Dioncounda Traoré who according to the constitution no longer has any legitimate power in Mali, and both of the purported rebel leaders, including Traoré’s long term party associate and friend Ihyad Ag Ghali, as liberation. Meanwhile, the unlikely coalition effectively occupied the truth by denying not corrupted members of Mali’s parliament access to media and by preventing them from leaving Mali.

In a recent, not broad-casted interview, Dr. Mariko stated, that the leaders of both purported Islamist rebel factions, Mali’s interim President Dioncounda Traoré, and the Hollande administration effectively are cooperating on the recolonization of Mali.
In the interview Dr. Oumar Mariko stated, that France is supporting those political forces in Mali, which are united under the banner of the FDR, which he describes as corrupted and whose leaders have the closest possible ties to the rebellion.
Leading members of the PDS party, which is part of the FDR umbrella organization, have close ties to rebel leader Ihyad Agh Ghali. According to Dr. Oumar Mariko, the interim President Dioncounda Traoré and the rebel leader Ihyad Ag Ghali are the closest of friends and members of the same party organization.
Ihyad Ag Ghali is responsible for the death of thousands of Malian citizens and according to Dr. Mariko the Hollande administration, Ag Ghali and Dioncounda Traoré are all coordinating their war with one another.

The statements of Dr. Oumar Mariko are not only substantiated by historical facts, his political standing, and the respect he enjoys among the people in Mali. The statements are also substantiated by credible witness testimony, according to which interim President Dioncounda Traoré has called the cell phone of a captured rebel commander, giving him explicit orders to attack Mali military forces, before realizing that he was speaking to the arresting military officer. The officer, who refused to let himself be bribed by Traoré after Traoré realized that he had made a “mistake”, has since been murdered.

Celebrating Hollande as “liberator and Papa Hollande” and recolonizing Mali would not be possible without occupying access to the truth first.

Och så den isländska presidentens självklara men ändå ganska uppseendeväckande uttalande – Why Has Iceland Experienced a Strong Economic Recovery after Complete Financial Collapse in 2008?

When asked whether Iceland’s policy of letting the banks fail would have worked in the rest of Europe, Grimsson replied:
„… Why are the banks considered to be the holy churches of the modern economy? Why are private banks not like airlines and tele-communication companies and allowed to go bankrupt if they have been run in an irresponsible way? The theory that you have to bail-out banks is a theory that you allow bankers enjoy for their own profit their success, and then let ordinary people bear their failure through taxes and austerity. People in enlightened democracies are not going to accept that in the long run. …

Mer från Island – FBI Came to Investigate Wikileaks in Iceland

A group of FBI agents arrived in Iceland in August 2011, requesting collaboration with Icelandic police authorities to investigate Wikileaks, as revealed by Wikileaks spokesperson Kristinn Hrafnsson on RÚV’s news magazine Kastljós last night.
“The FBI came here in a private jet and landed at Reykjavík Airport. According to my information—which is very solid and I have had it confirmed—Minister of the Interior Ögmundur Jónasson was notified of their arrival and reacted angrily because it is unbelievably presumptuous to come here this way,” Kristinn stated.

“According to my information, he demanded that these agents pack their bags, embark the plane and leave the country,” Kristinn added. “I know that this was later discussed within the government, which formally objected to U.S. authorities.”

Sven Hofman, nyhetsbanken.se – Reinfeldt hotar rikets säkerhet

F. William Engdahl – Mali and AFRICOM’s Africa Agenda: Target China

Mali itself, like much of Africa is rich in raw materials. It has large reserves of gold, uranium and most recently, though western oil companies try to hide it, of oil, lots of oil. The French preferred to ignore Mali’s vast resources, keeping it a poor subsistence agriculture country. Under the deposed democratically-elected President Amadou Toumani Toure, for the first time the government initiated a systematic mapping of the vast wealth under its soil. According to Mamadou Igor Diarra, previous mining minister, Malian soil contains copper, uranium, phosphate, bauxite, gems and in particular, a large percentage of gold in addition to oil and gas. Thus, Mali is one of the countries in the world with the most raw materials. With its gold mining, the country is already one of the leading exploiters directly behind South Africa and Ghana. [6] Two thirds of France’s electricity is from nuclear power and sources of new uranium are essential. Presently, France draws significant uranium imports from neighboring Niger.

Now the picture gets a little complex.
According to usually reliable former US military experts with direct familiarity with the region, speaking on condition of anonymity, US and NATO Special Forces actually trained the same “terrorist” bands now justifying a neo-colonial US-backed invasion of Mali by France. The major question is why would Washington and Paris train the terrorists they are now acting to destroy in a “war on terror?” Were they really surprised at the lack of NATO loyalty from their trainees? And what is behind AFRICOM’s American-backed French takeover of Mali?

NATO’s Failure in Libya

On 17 March 2011, by resolution 1973, the Security Council authorized NATO to intervene ”civilians and civilian populated areas under threat of attack in the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya.”
We measure the success of the NATO mission by examining the following figures:

In Libya in 2010, under the ”regime of Muammar al-Gaddafi,” there were
3.8 million Libyans
2.5 million foreign workers
for a total of 6.3 million inhabitants.

Today, there are 1.6 million Libyans in exile while 2.5 million migrants have fled the country to escape racist attacks.
There remain approximately 2.2 million people.

These figures do not take into account the number of casualties during the operation as estimates remain questionable.
Media personalities evoking NATO ”success” in Libya are therefore not referring to its legal mandate assigned by the Security Council, but rather acknowledging it’s hidden mission to overthrow the regime.

Diana Johnstone – R2P and “Genocide Prevention”: The Good Intentions That Pave the Road to War

Why has the U.S. Government so eagerly endorsed the crusade against “genocide”?
The reason is clear. Since the Holocaust has become the most omnipresent historical reference in Western societies, the concept of “genocide” is widely and easily accepted as the greatest evil to afflict the planet. It is felt to be worse than war.
Therein lies its immense value to the U.S. military-industrial complex, and to a foreign policy elite seeking an acceptable pretext for military intervention wherever they choose.

At the same time, national sovereignty, erected as the barrier to prevent strong nations from invading weaker ones, that is, to prevent aggression and “the scourge of war”, is derided as nothing but a protection for evil rulers (“dictators”) whose only ambition is to “massacre their own people”.
This ideological construct is the basis for the Western-sponsored doctrine, forced on a more or less reluctant United Nations, of “R2P”, the ambiguous shorthand for both the “right” and the “responsibility” to protect peoples from their own governments.
In practice this can give the dominant powers carte blanche to intervene militarily in weaker countries in order to support whatever armed rebellions they favor. Once this doctrine seems to be accepted, it can even serve as an incitement to opposition groups to provoke government repression in order to call for “protection”.

Andrew Gavin Marshall – Welcome to the Network of Global Corporate Control

In this first of a three-part series on the reaches of global corporate power, we’ll look specifically at the size and network influence of the world’s largest corporations. This is especially important given that the world’s population faces increasing challenges with over 1 billion people living in slums, billions more living in poverty, hunger and increasing starvation; with unemployment increasing, austerity and “adjustment” programs demanding that even those in the once-industrialized West dramatically reduce their living standards; as the environment is plundered and pillaged, and as governments give corporations more state welfare and subsidies while cutting welfare and social services for the poor.

Corporate culture creates, over time, a totalitarian culture as this dominant institution seeks to remake society in its own image – where people are punished and impoverished as corporations are supported, rewarded and empowered.
